Former chairperson of the Women’s Professional League, Dilichukwu Onyedinma has expressed that Nigerian Women soccer teams will continue to disappoint on international assignments due to lack of adequate preparation.
Onyedinma, who is a director of sports in the Federal Capital Territory said reason for the failure of Nigeria Women teams in intercontinental competition is that when other top countries prepare for a year or more, Nigeria only prepare for a couple of months, while expecting to do well which she says can never happen.
“Our national Women team will only achieve so much in the continent because we have supremacy over all other country but what we need in intercontinental competitions is adequate preparation.
“Our teams sometime only prepare for four weeks for a major tournament like the World Cup, whereas while their opponents had commenced preparation a year prior,” Onyedinma said.
She further said the only way forward for the country’s Women football to be a force to be reckoned with in the world is for the administrators to give more incentives and adequate preparation to any women team preparing for international competitions.
