Ogun Women Affairs Ministry Reconciles Over 200 Estranged Couples

As part of the efforts of Ogun State Government at reducing the effect of broken homes in the society, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has successfully reconciled 210 matrimonial couples just as it provided psycho-social counseling to 537 children of the couples.

The Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Mrs. Abiola Kufile-Okonji stated this during the visit of the State Assembly’s Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development led by Hon. Yetunde Sogbein-Adekanbi to the Ministry to assess the 2017 Budget performance of the Ministry at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Okonji added that 45 knotty family cases were attended to by the Ministry’s conflict resolution team, while additional three homes were registered to provide protection for abandoned children.

The Commissioner, who disclosed that 20 abandoned children were placed on adoption to conducive homes with a view to ensuring their proper growth, stated that over N39m was paid to mothers in respect of 525 children,  while over 5, 000 orphans and vulnerable children received support with the assistance of the Ministry.

In her response, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Yetunde Sogbein commended the Ministry for its ingenuity in achieving improved revenue for government, while striving within available resources to promote and pursue programmes towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

She also lauded the ministry for putting in place programmes meant to build a society devoid of discrimination against women and empowerment of children and the vulnerable group.

The Committee members including Honourables Atanda Rasaq and Julianah Akintayo harped on the need for more synergy between the Ministry and the Assembly for improved service delivery.
