May 12 Date For Oyo LG Polls Stands – OYSIEC

  • Prepares 4,783 Polling Booths, 5,210 Points, 610 Wards

Mr Jide Ajeigbe, the Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has disclosed that 4,783 polling booths, 5,210 voting points, 610 wards across the 33 local government areas and 35 local council development areas in the state will be put to use for the May 12 local government election.

Ajeigbe made this disclosure on Thursday during a meeting held with members of the security committee set up for the election at OYSIEC’s office, in Ibadan.

Speaking, Ajimobi tasked the committee to draw up and effect all security plans that would take care of all issues regarding security of voters and voting staff during the election.

Noting the importance of having elected representatives as Chairmen and Councillors to take care of grassroots’ interests, Ajeigbe urged residents of the state to turn out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.

He reiterated the commitment of the electoral commission to conducting a free, fair and credible election, noting that he was poised to meet with representatives of political parties to participate in the local government election on Friday.

The release made available by Public Relations Officer, OYSIEC, Mr Cosmos Oni, listed those that attended Thursday’s meeting as Brigadier General O. D. Shoyele, representing, GOC 2nd Mechanised Division, Odogbo; ACP Abimbola Olusegun and CSP Awoyale Olufemi representing the Commissioner of Police; Akande Akintayo (CSC) representing the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
