The Federal Government has been commended by the Ogun State House of Assembly for the approval of the revised contract for the reconstruction of the Lagos-Sango-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway at the Federal Executive Council’s meeting recently.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the commendation, while responding to the submission of a member representing Ado-Odo/Ota 1 State Constituency, Hon. Akinpelu Aina under Personal Explanation, who described the road contract approval as a demonstration of government’s resolve to ensure even spread of democratic dividends to the people for the enhancement of their socio-economic status.

Adekunbi, who expressed optimism for the timely completion of the road, described the ongoing infrastructural development as critical to achieving human capital development in any society, just as he commended Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s effort in responding promptly to the plight of the residents of the area and other road users through the provision of palliative measures.

Earlier in his remarks, Aina, who appreciated the Federal Government for the approval of the road reconstruction, which according to him, was a great relief to motorists, commuters and residents of the Lagos and Ogun States, thanked Governor Amosun for his role in facilitating federal projects to the State, as well as his colleague-lawmakers for their contributions at enacting legislations to aid infrastructural development in the State.

Also, the Assembly unanimously endorsed the two acts recently transmitted to it by the National Assembly in the on-going 4th Alteration of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The acts are “the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (Fourth Alteration) Bill, No. 10, 2017 (Presidential Assent), which seeks to alter sections 58, 59 and 100 to resolve the impasse where the President or Governor neglects to signify his/her assent to a bill from the National Assembly or withhold such assent”. This is to enable timely passage of laws for good governance, as well as No. 18, 2017 -Office of the Auditor-General, which “seeks to make the office of the Auditor-General for the Federation and for the State financially independent by placing them on first-line charges in the Consolidated Revenue funds of the Federation and of the States”.

In another development, the Assembly as part of its quasi-judicial function, passed a resolution authorizing the ownership of a landed property situated at Plot 4, Block H, Government Residential Area Extension, Olokemeji, Abeokuta in Obafemi/Owode Local Government to Mr Afolabi Matthew Niyi.

The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the reports of the  Assemblys Committee on Lands and Housing by Hon. Yetunde Sogbein-Adekanbi, who also moved the motion for its adoption, seconded by Hon. Tunde Sanusi and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.

“The Committee therefore concluded that, a piece of land situated at Plot 4, Block H, Government residential Area Extension, Olokemeji, Abeokuta in Obafemi/Owode Local Government measuring 1317.864 square meters belong to Mr Afolabi Mattew Niyi as the original title owner of all valid documents in respect of the land with the following documents: a land agreement dated 17th September, 2006, a valid land survey and a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) validly issued to him by the State Government”, the report partly read.

Also, the Assembly equally passed another resolution directing the Chairman of the Orile Kajola Phase II Community in Ifo Local Government Area to meet with the counsel to Orile Kajola Family towards expediting action for the payment of ratification fees.

According to the Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions’ report presented by its Acting Chairman, Hon. Adebowale Ojuri, which reads in part, “since the land was not bought directly from the original owners of the lands to authentic ownership of the land and as judgement was in favour of Kajola Family, individual landlord or owner of underdeveloped parcel of Land should prepare themselves for the agreed ratification fee of three hundred and fifty thousand Naira (350,000:00) only to be paid to the Orile Kajola family”.

The report clarified that only Land owners that bought their land from Kajola Family would pay N50,000 only to collect original receipt as complete payment for the ownership of the land.
