In Ogun Amosun’s Man, Derin Adebiyi Emerges Chairman Of APC

The Senior Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Chief Derin Adebiyi, on Saturday emerged  the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

Derin Adebiyi who hails from Ifo Local Government Council in Ogun Central, emerged  the state party Chairman following a consensus  made possible with the harmonization of camps loyal to both Amosun and former governor Aremo Segun Osoba.

The 1,749 accredited delegates from the 20 Local Government Areas of the state elected the new party executives who emerged unopposed.

Adebiyi polled 1,712 votes to emerge as chairman according to the chairman, APC State Congress Committee, Revd Peter Obadan, who announced the results at the end of the congress.

Obadan, who was accompanied by four other members of the congress committee, stated that 18 void votes were recorded during the election.

He also announced Hon. Patrick Ogunde as the new state Secretary of the party while saying Chief Wole Elegbede was unanimously elected as the Publicity Secretary.

He lauded the party members for their peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.

 Although Osoba was absent at the state congresses, his loyalists, such as  Senator Adegbenga Kaka,  Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi and the son of the former governor, Olumide Osoba, were present.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, who was a former Deputy Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and one-time chairman of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), pledged to lead  APC to win the 2019 general elections in the state.

 “From reports all over the country, this state witnessed the most peaceful congress. Your Excellency, this is a reflection of your leadership quality. What we witnessed during the congress was not an accident; it was an outcome of a very sensible and meticulous leadership.

“I want to assure you that this administration will be an all encompassing one. We are going to play politics of inclusion, not exclusion. We are going to obey the leaders and we are going to be firm. The era of indiscipline is gone in this party.

“We are going to win the next election in a landslide manner. I want to assure you sir, we are not going to betray the confidence reposed in us,” Adebiyi said.

Also speaking, Amosun hailed the APC members in the state for doing the state proud with the peaceful manner  conduct the congresses went.

The governor declared that the ruling party will win 2019, urging members to remain resolute in standing by the party.

He said, “We will work till May 29, 2019. I commend all our party faithful for their commitment to the success of the party. Without the members, there can’t be the party.

“Election is coming; we are Ogun State. It’s not about fighting. We have what to sell. The governor that is coming after me will do better than me.”

…In Ondo State, Adetimehin Takes The Shine Off Others

Mr. Ade Adetimehin on Saturday took the shine off all other candidates to emerge the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

Adetimehin, who had been functioning in acting capacity since a former chairman of the party, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, was suspended for anti- party activities in 2016, garnered 990 out of 1,001 votes cast by the delegates.

36 persons emerged as members of the newly constituted executive committee in the state.

Adetimehin thanked the party members for giving him the opportunity to lead the party for the next four years.

…In Lagos, Tunde Balogun Blew Away The Others To Become Chairman

Alhaji Tunde Balogun on Saturday emerged the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

The Chairman of APC Congress Committee in the state, Senator Uche Ekwuenife, has earlier said there would be no voting during the exercise.

Thus the new executives were picked based on affirmation by the delegates.

…In Oyo, Akin Oke Came, Conquered, As Committee Disowns Parallel Congress

The incumbent Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Akin Oke and the Secretary, Mr. Mojeed Olaoya, were among party executive returned for another term of four years at the party’s state congress on Saturday.

Others who were also returned at the congress held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, included Dr Azeez Olatunde (Publicity Secretary) and Mrs. Mabel Williams (Women Leader), while Mr. Lekan Adeyemo emerged as Deputy Chairman.

The new executives emerged through voice vote at the congress conducted by a five-man APC State Congress Committee headed by Alhaji Abdullahi Gwarzo and monitored by monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Gwarzo, while addressing delegates, said the committee was not aware of any parallel congress, adding the only valid congress was the one conducted by the committee and witnessed by INEC officials.

He said that the congress was conducted in line with the directives and guidelines of the party, adding “We did our best. We were able to elect the leadership of Oyo State APC without any rancour. You can see that everybody is happy, including the governor.

“The congress was well-organised and we are not aware of any other congress or faction. APC is one united party. Nomination forms were sold to all aspiring members of the party in the state and Lekan Salami Sports Complex is the recognised venue.

Other members of the committee included Alhaji Haruna Tilde, Mr. Muhammed Sanni Sidi, Mr. Emeka Okolie and Mr. Ayuba Idria, while the INEC officials were Mr. Olubunmi Ariyo from Abuja and Mr. Ayodele Folami from Ibadan.

The congress was attended by the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Olagunju Ojo, a former Senate Majority Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari.

Other APC chieftains in attendance included Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN), Mr Sunday Dare, Mr. Zaccheus Adelabu as well as members of the House of Representatives, Hons. Akeem Adeyemi, Jide Olatunbosun, Dokun Odebunmi, Saheed Fijabi and Abiodun Awoleye.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi, while addressing newsmen, expressed willingness to accommodate all aggrieved party members, adding that the quality of good leaders was determined by their level of tolerance and ability to accommodate opposing views.

“In the spirit of true democracy, aggrieved members would be accommodated but the party won’t tolerate acts of thuggery, brigandage and unnecessary discord,” he said.

The governor, while charging the newly-elected executives to pursue peace and do everything within their means to unite the party, said “politics is about give and take. It is about reconciliation and interest. The most important is to accommodate others”.

Also, Alao-Akala, who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congress, volunteered to lead the team that would reconcile aggrieved members in the larger interest of the party.
