Belgian First Division A club KAA Gent have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international striker, Taiwo Awoniyi on loan from Liverpool.

Through a press release published on their official website, the former U-17 the Belgian side said the young striker, who recently extended his contract with the Premier League side, will spend the entirety of the 2018-2019 campaign at the East Flanders club.

Last term, Awoniyi was loaned out to Royal Excel Mouscron and had his most productive season in terms of goals, netting ten goals (seven assists) in 31 games across all competitions.

One of his strikes last season was against Gent on game week 16, while he provided an assist in Mouscron’s 3-2 win over his new employer last August.

“Thanks for everything @royal_excel_mouscron was an amazing year with you and hopefully will see again this year,” Awoniyi wrote via his handle @awoniyi18 on Instagram on Tuesday.

“New home , new challenge @kaagent #happy to be part of the family God willing it will end in praise #God is the greatest”

The 20-year-old Awoniyi who represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels could make his debut for KAA Gent on Friday when they take on Standard Liege in a league opener.

Nigerian trio Samuel Kalu, Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti are first-teamers at Gent.
