The Oyo State House of Assembly has been urged to look into the 300% increase in tuition fee by the Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

The call was made by Hon. Bimbo Oladeji, representing Ogbomoso North state constituency under matters of urgent pubic importance during the plenary held on the Tuesday.

While speaking, Hon. Oladeji stated that LAUTECH was established by Oyo and Osun states with the objective of making education accessible to indigenes of both state and beyond.

According to her it has become a thing of concern that LAUTECH has raised its school fees by over 300% based on a recent circular released by the University authority. School fees for all categories of students have been raised from N65,000.00 & N70,000.00 to between N200,000 & N300,000.

Hon. Oladeji, while urging the House to call on the school management to have a re-think on the issue, added that the action is capable of increasing the number of drop-out students in the country’s education system.

In the same vein, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Olagunju Ojo has implored the state government, parents and well meaning organizations in the state to work together to uplift the state’s education sector.

Hon. Ojo gave the advice in line with the motion presented by Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, representing Atiba state Constituency, on the “need to employ more teachers for public primary and secondary schools to enhance academic performance in Oyo State”.

Hon. Oyekola presented that inadequate information, dearth of qualified teachers, indolence among students, politicisation of appointment of teacher and indiscipline among teachers are contributing to poor performance of students in external examinations

He enjoined the state government, parents and organization to take necessary measures to employ more teachers to fill vacancies created by those that have retired, intensify efforts at construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure in school, provide furniture, teaching aid and other instructional materials for proper teaching learning process,  to inculcate in their wards the right attitude and provide them with necessary materials such as uniforms, textbook, exercise books and other learning materials.
