A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Abiodun Olasupo (ADC- Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa) has stated that core members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State were pushed out to satisfy personal reasons and ambitions.

Olasupo, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Compliance told newsmen at Iwere-Ile, Iwajowa Local Government of Oyo State during a town hall meeting with constituents.

PMParrot was informed that Olasupo alongside other members of unity forum, a splinter group of APC recently defected to African Democratic Congress(ADC) in the state.

The group had hinged the cause of their defection on Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s highhandedness and disrespect for party supremacy.

He stated that they had no option than to defect technically from APC to ADC where majority tyranny and internal democracy was much valued.

The lawmaker emphasised that the recent defections across political parties was good for democracy, adding it would enhance good governance.

“Democracy is about tyranny of the majority. There won’t be a strong political party when the interest of minority overrides that of the majority.

“As long as there is no strong political party, there won’t be a stable government and without a stable government, there won’t be the much desired development,” he said.

Olasupo stated that political participation and membership was about free entry and exit to allow participant the choice of desired political ideology and direction.

According to him, “when the tenet of a political party does not give power to the people to elect who leads them, then free exit is guaranteed.

“People will have to move to another party where they are warmly welcome and where internal democracy is much sacrosanct.

“We defected to ADC where we found an abode. This is an abode where party supremacy and internal democracy is highly valued. In this party, the tyranny of majority works and the minority have their say.”

The lawmaker stressed that politics globally was about personal interest, adding every participant needed to be where he or she is wanted and according to his or her supporters’ choice.

He stated that APC made a singular error of conducting its congresses in an election year coupled with the unconstitutional usage of caretaker committees in Oyo State for seven years.

Olasupo said his ambition to seek re-election was driven by the support and aspirations of his supporters.

“When I was elected in 2015, I saw so many possibilities and made many promises. By the grace of God and the support of my people, I have delivered but not all.

“There are so many things beyond my weight as a first timer in the House of Representatives. My re-election in 2019 God willing is going to be a project of consolidation.

“I am going to consolidate on all I have done ranging from educational support, infrastructure, economic emancipation, women empowerment, securing of job for constituents as well as physical and human development,” he said.

The lawmaker condemned the recent invasion of the National Assembly by the DSS, describing it as very sad in a democracy where separation of powers ought to be respected.

Some of the leaders in the council expressed optimism that the ADC would win the 2019 elections convincingly at all levels of government.

Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi, Alhaji Saka Kareem and Alhaji Kazeem Olalekan, described Olasupo as a tested and trusted representative of the constituency, pledging to support him.

“Olasupo is our focus. I can assure you that he would be re-elected because he has our support any day, “he said.

PMParrot got to know that residents including ADC supporters came out in their hundreds to welcome Olasupo, whom they all described as a tested and trusted representative.
