Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon says its good to be back in the Nigeria national team fold and he is looking forward to the prospect of playing his first competitive Super Eagles match in more than a year.

The 23-year-old winger has struggled with injuries in recent months and famously missed the 2018 World Cup in Russia due to a thigh problem.

He has also missed out on Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles and Libya in September and October.

However, he has been named in manager Gernot Rohr’s selection for the upcoming qualifier away to South Africa and a friendly with Uganda.

This time around, it is expected that Simon will feature in some form at FNB Stadium against Bafana Bafana. This would be his first competitive appearance since the win over Zambia in October last year which sealed World Cup qualification.

The Spain-based player says he embraces the competition for attacking berths in Nigeria’s senior team.

“I’d say that, for me, it’s good. I’m used to it and I believe the players in that position are used to it,” Simon was quoted by Goal.

“You cannot say that in your club you’re the only winger in the team. So in the national team, it’s a thing of joy having the same experience. All the wingers are good.

“All the wingers [that are always being] called up are good. So it’s left for the coach to determine who plays and who doesn’t. I believe anyone the coach put will play a good game.”

He added, “It’s felt good to be back again to represent my country and it’s a proud thing.

“I’d say that injury is normal but for me not to go to the World Cup, I’d say God knows best.

“I could have gone and maybe end up not playing a game. I believe God protected me from that.

“I thank the coach, technical staff, everybody for showing me the love. Trying to push me, trying to encourage me in that time.”

Nigeria will face South Africa in a Group E clash at ‘Soccer City’ on Saturday, November 17.
