Oyo Assembly Passes 2019 Budget One Month After Presentation

Barely one month after the presentation of the 2019 Appropriation and Finance Bill by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, the state’s House of Assembly has passed it into law after being read for the third time.

The total sum of #285,151,248,190.48 comprising of recurrent expenditure of N121,619,813,614.24 and capital expenditure of N163,531,434,576.24 was passed into law by the House as against a sum N285,000,000,000.00 presented by the governor on 31st December, 2018.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olagunju Ojo, while speaking shortly after the passage disclosed that the speedy passage of the budget was borne out of the commitment of the members of the House.

Hon.Olagunju assured that the House will continue to play its role and responsibility in ensuring checks and balances in the administration of state.

He assured the readiness of the House to put the executive arm of government on its toes to ensure full compliance and implementation of the budget immediately after the general elections.

Chairman, Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Hon. Bolanle Agbaje, representing Ibadan North state constituency 1, while presenting the report, noted that at subcommittee’s level, the House engaged all relevant ministries and agencies to examine the performance of 2018 Appropriation and how to ensure successful implementation of the 2019 Appropriation.

She recommended that government should provide necessary logistics to assist the agencies in charge of income generation to boost the state Internally Generated Revenue base.

Hon. Agbaje also enjoined government to block all loopholes to prevent leakages and wastage, and should also be ready to deal with tax defaulters according to the laws in order to meet up with Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target.
