The Vice Chancellor of the First Technical University, Ibadan, Professor Ayobami Salami has given three reasons why parents and guardians should struggle to ensure their children and wards attend his institution.
The eloquent scholar, in his submission while addressing the new students of the school recently said his first reason is that serious undergraduates of the school have the opportunity of making money right from school.
His words “we have those we call ‘Tech-U-Preneurs’ who are already working for multinational companies as in the areas of digital prototyping and 3D printing. And they are already earning money legitimately.
“In addition, those who cannot fall within this category while in school are guaranteed that they will never look for work after graduation because they will be graduating with at least two vocations at hand. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to leave the school”.
The second reason Salami gave was that at Tech-U, as the school is called, there is financial autonomy and stable calendar.
“We are independent here to manage our finances and students have water-tight programs to follow from day one till they graduate. By God’s grace, we do not see any reason why this will change. Nobody will go on strike or shut down and open the school.
“The third reason is that so far, in the 2019 Webtometric Ranking, the First Technical University’s modest effort attracted global attention as it was listed 43rd out of the 252 higher institutions ranked in Nigeria. And this is just our third year. Moreover, here, we have tolerance for cultism, ‘yahoo yahoo’ and examination malpractices.”
