Reopening Of Worship Centers: Fayemi Inaugurates Committee To Work Out Work-ability

Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State has inaugurated an 11-Man Committee to consider the reopening of Worship Centres across the State.

Fayemi who was represented by his Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi appreciated the religious bodies in the State for their support since the events of the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown activities started.

Fayemi noted the concerns of the State Government on the Fundamental Principle of Rights to Worship and ability to curtail the spread of the dreadful pandemic in Ekiti State which supposed not to be jeopardized.

According to the Deputy Governor, he stated that “for the sake of the comparison in relation to the report from other neighboring states, government would not like to open Worship Centres and later put them on closure, which can only be as a result of inability to plan well. In other to have proper modalities for re-opening of worship centers in the State, Mr. Governor has deemed it fit to constitute Committee of 11 people (5 from Government and 6 from Religious Cycle: 3 Christians and 3 Muslims) that will look into the appropriate modalities that will best suit religious body and the government alike. The Committee will be given a week to submit their recommendations to the State Government for consideration, amendment and approval”, he submitted.

Inaugurating the Committee, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi listed the members of the Committee to include the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade; her counterpart in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the State, Pastor Foluso Daramola and that of the Commissioner for Special Duties, Honourable Bamidele Faparusi; the Head of Service of Ekiti State, Mrs. Peju Babafemi as well as the Director General of Ekiti State COVID Taskforce, Professor Sam Aluko.

Others included the Ekiti State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Fr. Peter A. Olowolafe; Bishop C. O. Abifade and Rev. Joshua R. Orikogbe, the former CAN Chairman in Ekiti State from Christian side.

Those from the Muslims side are Barrister Yakubu, Alhaji A. B. Abdusalam and Alhaji Professor Abduraheem.

Both Rev. Fr. Peter Olowolafe, the State CAN Chairman and Alhaji Sanni, the State Chairman of Muslims Organisation, in their unanimous speech, appreciated the kind gestures of the government towards them and thereby promised the government maximum cooperation to achieve the best for both Government and Religious Bodies in the state.
