Gubernatorial Poll: Group Urges Ndi Anambra To Vote Right

As Ndi Anambra prepare to go to the poll to elect the next governor of the State, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Alliance for Better Anambra State (ABAS), has urged the people to reject known retrogressive elements masquerading as progressives and vote their conscience.

The Group urged the electorate to identify with only those who have a track record of service to the people of Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general. Their candidates of choice should be those with known source of income and illustrious academic background. It deprecated the penchant to play up cant and near illiteracy while making light of solid intellectualism and objective accomplishment.

In a Press Statement released in Awka and signed by its National Coordinator Comrade Egwuatu Ifejika, ABAS urged the people not be cowed by the heavy presence of security officials but to ensure that they exercise their franchise peacefully and appropriately.

The Group also urged all candidates in the election to play by the rules. It condemned the tendency of mercantile politicians to resort to money politics and reminded Ndi Anambra that what is required as the immortal Martin Luther King Jnr once noted is a leader “not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity”. That leader, the Group opined, could easily be found in the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

On the seemingly orchestrated and sustained talk that the APC candidate, Dr. Andy Uba, will win willy-nilly, the Group admonished the voters not to be swayed by such idle talk. It assured the people that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a man of his word, has pledged that the election will be free and fair. It however reminded Uba and his co-travelers of the exhortation of the former American President, John F. Kennedy that, “those who make peaceful change impossible, make violent change inevitable”
