Napoli doctors will be with Victor Osimhen when the Super Eagles camp resume as the three-time African champions begin preparations for the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Osimhen, who has been training individually at his base in Naples after undergoing surgery on his fractured cheekbone, has been listed in the Eagles provisional squad for the tournament, according to Italian website, CalcioNapoli24.it.
The report revealed that the Partenopei doctors and their counterparts in the Eagles will have to come to an agreement over the player’s participation at the biennial event, which will hold from January 9 to February 6.
“The three Napoli players (Adam Ounas, Kalidou Koulibaly and Andre-Frank Anguissa) are already included in the pre-call-ups, including Osimhen,” the report stated.
“The doctors of Nigeria and Napoli will then decide if he can be part of the squad.
“Between now and January 9 there are still many days in which he (Osimhen) can recover. But he will certainly leave for the preparations and he will be visited by Napoli staff to know if he has a chance to play but Nigeria will wait until the end.”
Nigeria have been drawn in Group D with Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan and they will open their campaign against the Pharaohs at Roumde Adjia Stadium on January 11 before taking on Sudan four days later. Their final fixture is against Guinea-Bissau on January 19.
Osimhen scored nine goals in 14 games before his injury for Napoli and he was also top scorer during the AFCON qualifying series, notching up five goals.
