The Ekiti State police command has paraded seven suspected criminals including the alleged killer of Akomolafe Tolulope Patience, a 100 level student of Federal University (FUOYE) Oye-Ekiti.
He stated that the victim was attacked and inflicted with injuries by the gang of suspected cultists, revealing that the victim later died in the hospital while receiving treatment as a result of the multiple injuries inflicted on him.
The police command further claimed that late Akomolafe was able to identify the perpetrators of the crime as Akamo Ayodeji popularly known as ‘MORE’ and Abdullahi A.K.A Abu.
This revelation was made in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, ASP Sunday Abutu in Ado Ekiti on Friday.
He stated that the Ekiti State police command under the leadership of the commissioner of police, Mr Moronkeji Adesina, has recorded several achievements in crime detection, prevention and control, which led to the arrest of the criminals.
He further submitted that the other suspected criminals were arrested for conspiracy, impersonation, kidnapping and unlawful possession of 4 Barreta pistols and 40 Rounds of 9mm ammunition.
He said, “On the 04/04/2022 at about 17:30hrs, the command received a distress call that some suspected kidnappers were operating along Ikole-Ekiti/Ijesa-Isu-Ekiti road. Upon the receipt of the information, a team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was deployed to the scene for possible arrest of the suspects.
Continuing, “On approaching the scene, the suspects numbering about five (5) sighted the police and took to their heels. Effort intensified by the operatives led to the arrest of one Aliyu Mohammed and items recovered from him include two (2) barreta pistols, forty (40) rounds of 9mm live ammunition, three (3) Airtel sim pack, one (1) Glo sim pack, one (1) yellow hand band of Axe men Black Axe secret cult group, one (1) military neck chain, one (1) Army leave pass and one (1) Army ID card belonging to his late brother, one LCPL. Aliyu Abbas who died sometime early this year and six (6) passports photograph snapped by the suspect in Army camouflage uniform”.
Abutu further stated that the suspected criminal confessed to be a gun runner had earlier supplied a baretta pistol to one Fatai Danjuma and Ademilua Ayodele Hammed at the cost of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (#250,000:00) in March,2022, revealing that the concerted efforts of the RRS operatives led to the arrest of Fatai Danjuma, Ayodele Ademilua Hammed and Olajide Samuel in their hideouts.
