Celebration Of  ‘Aheregbe’ Festival: Deji Of Akure Orders Closure Of Markets, Shops

A first class Yoruba traditional ruler, the Deji of Akure in Ondo State, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II has ordered the immediate closure of all markets and shops in Akure Kingdom to enable the people of his Kingdom observe the popular annual ‘Aheregbe’ Festival for this year 2022.

In a statement made available to PMParrot on Saturday evening and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Palace of Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Prince Adeyeye Michael asked residents of Akure that all Markets and Shops in Akure should be shut on Monday 22nd August, 2022 for the Annual ‘Aheregbe’ Festival to take place unhindered.

According to the Deji Of Akure,, “the closure becomes necessary as part of the age long tradition in observance of the Annual ‘Aheregbe’ Festival”.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Palace, Prince Adeyeye Michael used the opportunity to inform residents that no trading or opening of shops under any guise will be allowed during the festival”.

Adeyeye added that it is imperative to clarify that only Pharmacy shops and Patent Medicine Stores will be allowed to open during the festival.

The statement also enjoined residents, Market Women and shop owners to ensure they fully comply with the directive.

Prince Adeyeye, however, concluded in the statement that, the festival will not restrict both human and vehicular movement while it lasts.
