Battle To Reduce Crime Rate: NIMASA Partners Oyebanji’s Govt

In order to reduce crime rates in Ekiti State, the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in collaboration with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has organised a one day workshop for security personnel in Ado – Ekiti.

Declaring the workshop open, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State. Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in her office, Mr. Opeyemi Abayomi appreciated the organizers of the training, describing it as timely and apt.

Chief Mrs Afuye who described the security network in the state as responsive to distress calls, appealed to to individuals and groups to support men of the security outfits for the protection of lives and property in state, as government could no longer meet the yearnings of the people.

The Deputy Governor assured that the government of Mr. Biodun Oyebanji would continue to put in place measures that would guarantee the safety of lives and property of the people of the state whom he has sworn to protect.

In his welcome address the General Manager, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mr. Olajide Borode said that it was high time everyone come together to proffer solutions to the precarious security challenges facing the state which, according to him, has brought about the collaboration between NIMASA and NEMA to train personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Amotekun Corps.

Describing NIMASA as an agency of government charged with the responsibility of marine time security and safety in Nigeria, Mr Borode identified areas of security concerns where Officers and men of the security outfits should focus their attention on.

He said, ”All hands must be on desk if we are to find possible solutions to insecurity issues in Ekiti State.”

In his comments, the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Bashir Jamoh, represented by his Deputy Director, Mr. Owoh Fidelis Chukwura said the security organisations need information gathering from residents, stressing that criminals such as bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers and others live in the midst of the people.

At the end of the training, some security equipment, such as Hand gloves, walkie talkie, handcuffs, searching mirrors, pepper spray, Baton, Knee guards, Jack knife, Safety booth, hand-scanner and flash lights were distributed to the security outfits that participated in the workshop by the General Manager of SEMA and the Director General of NIMASA, Jide Borode and Owoh Fidelis Chukwura respectively.

Responding on behalf of the benefiting security agencies, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ogundare ‘Dare, who was represented by Mr. Owuze Clement from Intelligent Bureau Department commended both SEMA and NIMASA for organizing the training as well as providing security gadgets to ease the work of security Agencies in Ekiti State and to enhanced them in the discharge of their duties. He urged all the security Agencies to synergize and partner communities in the State in the pursuit of vigorous and effective community policing to curb insecurity.
