The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has charged the newly elevated Obas in Ibadanland to use their respective offices to end land grabbing and insecurity in their domains.
He further urged the new monarchs to allow peace to reign in their communities while affirming that the state government will not allow any element to hold the state to ransom.
The governor revealed this through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Segun Olayiwola during the elevation and crowning of Baales on Friday at the Olubadan Palace, Oja’ba, Ibadan.
Governor ‘Seyi Makinde stated that the elevation of the monarchs has redefined the traditional status of Ibadan land, while urging the residents of the state to cooperate with the Olubadan-in-council and the state government.
The Olubadan, Oba Dr. Sen. Mohood Olalekan Balogun in his speech, described the elevation of the 34 Baales as a dream come true while affirming that Ibadan land can now completely compete with other towns and cities in Nigeria and Africa.
Uniqueness
He said, “Ibadan land has a unique traditional system and in response to changes, the Olubadan has decided to elevate the Baales. With this, we can completely compete with other towns and cities”.
Oba Dr. Mohood Balogun, however, urged the aggrieved stakeholders who were not satisfied with the elevation of the new monarchs to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign in Ibadan land.
The Olubadan further appreciated the past administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi for introducing changes to the Ibadan traditional system, while affirming that the mistakes inherent in the system have been corrected by the Engr. Seyi Makinde-led administration.
The newly elevated Baales promoted to the status of Obas included the Alajia of Ajia, HRH Oba Sulaimon Akinsola Oladepo, Olodo of Olodo, Oba Mudasiru Omodele Adebayo, Elerunmu of Erunmu, Oba Oyesola Oyerinde, Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oba Ojeniran Oluyemi, Olomi of Omi-Adio, Oba Mikail Adebayo.
Others included the Onidiayunre of Idi-Ayunre, Oba Muritala Olumini, Alaba of Abanla, Oba Tiamiyu Oladipupo, Elejioku of Ejioku, Oba Adesina Basiru, Onilalupon of Lalupon, Oba Arigbabuwo Adekunle, Alapete of Apete, Oba Raimi Idowu among others.
