About 2000 athletes from various schools across the south west zone of the country will slug it out for places in the Abuja grand finale as the Ibadan leg of the MTN School Athletics Championships take centre stage from Thursday in two centers within the Oyo State capital.
With successful staging of the Benin and Uyo legs, the third leg of the nationwide series of the secondary school Athletics Championships, berth in Ibadan as athletes compete in cadet, youth and junior categories of the three- day tournament.
At a press briefing held yesterday to herald Thursday’s kick-off , several stakeholders pledged their support to ensure a hitch-free competition.
Raheem Fatai, who represented the Oyo State Sport Commissioner, Wasilat Adegoke, assured of the state government’s co-operation and support to ensure that the competition is a huge success.
AFN’s Representative, Taldang Tanimu reaffirmed the federation’s commitment in providing technical support required for the competition.
Making of Champion’s Country Manager Deji Ogeyingbo highlighted the importance of moving across the country in the quest to discover and groom talents that could make the nation proud in future.
MTN CHAMPS Ibadan will hold simultaneously across two locations – at the Lekan Salami Stadium between November 9th and 11th , for the Youth & Junior events as well as the Finals, and also at the University of Ibadan Sports Complex simultaneously for the Cadet 100m, 200m, 400m and 4x100m Heats, and the Cadet 100m semifinals.
