The Federal Road Safety Commission has advised passengers and other road users to report individuals driving recklessly to the agency, saying it is part of their responsibility.
According to the FRSC, reporting reckless driving will caution the drivers and reduce road crashes and fatalities on the road.
The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamsat, gave the advice while declaring open the ember month campaign 2024 with the theme ‘Speak against dangerous driving: crashes kill more passengers than drivers,” according to a statement by the Lagos Sector Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Jayeola.
Hamsat maintained that the FRSC had revived its public education strategy to engage passengers and exert their right to caution drivers.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. This campaign empowers passengers to play an active role in promoting safety.”
The three-day campaign, which was supported by Guinness Nigeria, involved public engagements, radio ads, and town hall meetings with major stakeholders in attendance.
The FRSC provided tools and guidance for passengers on how to address unsafe situations.
Guinness Nigeria’s Managing Director, Girish Sharma, warned drivers against consuming alcohol while driving, stating that the safety of all road users was a priority for the company.
