The Ilori Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos State recently arraigned eight lawyers over allegations of quarrelling and scrambling for clients within the court premises.
The accused, identified as Idowu Okuwanne (41, female), Opara Chinwe (47, female), Moses Akpasubi (51, male), Jolly Ogbuefi (49, male), Adebayo Olowofela (39, male), Kayode Akintau (45, male), Celine Nwosu (41, female), and Olawale Olayinka (59, female), were brought before Magistrate M. I. Tanimola. They face charges of conspiracy and conduct likely to breach public peace, offences under the Lagos State Criminal Laws.
According to the police report, the lawyers allegedly caused a disturbance on December 20, this year, at the Ilori Court premises. The incident was reported to the Pen Cinema Police Division, leading to their arrest and subsequent arraignment.
The charges read: Count I: “That you, Idowu Okuwanne ‘F’, Okpara Chinwe ‘F’, Moses Akmasubi ‘M’, Jolly Ogbuefi ‘M’, Adebayo Olowofela ‘M’, Kayode Akintau ‘M’, Celine Nwosu ‘F’, and Olawale Olayinka ‘F’, on December 20, 2024, at about 11:00hrs at Ilori Court Premises, Ogba, Lagos, in the Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, namely conduct likely to cause breach of peace, thereby committing an offense punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
Count II: “That you, Idowu Okuwanne ‘F’, Okpara Chinwe ‘F’, Moses Akpasubi ‘M’, Jolly Ogbuefi ‘M’, Adebayo Olowofela ‘M’, Kayode Akintau ‘M’, Celine Nwosu ‘F’, and Olawale Olayinka ‘F’, on the same date, time, and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to breach the peace by shouting and constituting nuisance at the premises of the Ilori Court, thereby committing an offense punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
