Dangote Cement Plc has called on stakeholders in the housing industry to support budget-friendly mass housing schemes for Nigerians.

Speaking at the Africa International Housing Show, the National Sales Director, Dangote Cement Plc, Dolapo Alli, emphasised the need for collaboration among government agencies, private developers, non-profits, and communities to address the country’s housing challenges.

According to a statement from the firm, Alli said public-private partnerships can play a crucial role in supporting mass housing initiatives. “The government can adopt PPP models to initiate the construction of new estates, while companies and firms in the building and construction sector can be granted tax waivers and credits to facilitate the financing of new and affordable housing developments,” he said.

Alli commended the Federal Government’s efforts in implementing mass housing programmes, particularly the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative, which aims to make homeownership more accessible to citizens, especially low- and middle-income earners. However, he noted that more needs to be done to address the scale of the nation’s housing deficit, estimated in the millions.

“There is a pressing need for broader collaboration across public and private sectors to unlock innovative financing solutions, streamline regulatory processes, and scale up delivery to meet the growing demand for decent and affordable housing,” Alli said.

The Dangote executive identified several challenges affecting the provision of affordable housing in Nigeria, including rapid urbanization, population growth, knowledge gap in housing, high cost of land acquisition, rising cost of construction materials, lack of basic infrastructure, inaccurate housing demographics, and limited access to long-term and low-cost financing.

To address these challenges, Alli urged governments at all levels to implement effective policies and make available lands for mass housing in Nigeria. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership in providing shelter for Nigerians.

Dangote Cement Plc is one of the sponsors of the Africa International Housing Show, which closes on Friday, August 1, 2025. The company’s continued participation in the event stems from its conviction that the gathering has made a meaningful impact by generating ideas and fostering partnerships that contribute to providing shelter for Nigerians.

The AIHS provides a platform for stakeholders in the housing industry to share ideas, showcase innovative products and services, and discuss challenges and opportunities in the sector. With the theme of making housing more affordable and accessible, the event has attracted industry leaders, policymakers, and experts from across Africa and beyond.

As the housing deficit in Nigeria continues to grow, the need for innovative solutions and collaborative efforts has never been more pressing. Dangote Cement’s call for budget-friendly mass housing schemes is a timely reminder of the importance of working together to address the country’s housing challenges.
