FCAIB Holds Formal Inauguration and Induction Of ACTU

The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB) held its formal inauguration and induction ceremony for the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), FCAIB Chapter.

The event was attended by representatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), led by the Chairman of the Commission, who was represented by Barr. Chile Ogwuegbu, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner.

He was accompanied by Prince Adegboyega Akinleye, ACTU Desk Officer for FCAIB, and Barr. Damilola Oke, Public Education Officer; and Barr. Biola Sanusi, Legal Officer.

The ceremony was also graced by top management of the college, including deans of schools, directors, heads of departments, ACTU members, and staff.

Representing the provost, Prof. Jonathan J. Atungwu, the deputy provost (academics), Dr. Victoria E. Okpeze, welcomed everyone to the event. In her remarks, she emphasized the dangers and consequences of corruption, urging all staff and students to uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability within the college.

Barr. Ogwuegbu, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, delivered the address on behalf of the ICPC Chairman. Chile Ogwuegbu, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, praised FCAIB for its proactive stance, saying in his years of service since 2002, FCAIB stood out as the first institution to present the ICPC Anthem during an official engagement, describing the gesture as commendable. He also applauded the provost for establishing the ACTU, noting that it reflects the college’s commitment to fostering an environment free of corruption.

The presentation session was delivered by Prince Adegboyega Akinleye, ACTU Desk Officer for FCAIB, who provided an in-depth overview of the role and importance of ACTUs in public institutions. He explained that ACTUs serve as internal mechanisms for promoting ethical conduct, strengthening accountability, and ensuring compliance with established standards within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

He further emphasized that ACTUs operate in line with government circulars, the ICPC Act 2000, and the 2023 Standing Order guiding their operations. He revealed that the ICPC has established about 646 ACTUs nationwide, with 210 in the Federal Capital Territory and the rest spread across the 36 states, reflecting the commission’s sustained commitment to combating corruption.

A quote by Suzy Kassem was also shared to highlight the dangers of systems driven by profit rather than public interest.

The event thereafter featured an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants engaged the guest speaker on issues relating to corruption prevention and institutional ethics.

This was followed by the constitution of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) FCAIB Chapter Committee, which comprises the following members: Engr. Dr. Ayoade Atere (Chairman), Dr. Abosede Bukola Alabi, Barr. Elum, Ms. Opadola Funto, Mrs. Abdulfatai Olayinka, Mr. Ayo Adesanya, and Mr. Oyedeji Omotosho.

Subsequently, the oath-taking and formal inauguration of all members of the ACTU–FCAIB Chapter were conducted.

The exercise was administered by Barr. Biola Sanusi, Legal Officer, led the new inductees in taking their official oath of service, thereby formally constituting the unit.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the ACTU–FCAIB chapter, Engr. Dr. Ayode Atere expressed appreciation to the management of the college and the ICPC for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the unit. He described the appointment as an honor and a call to service, pledging the committee’s commitment to promoting ethical practices in the workplace.

He further assured that the ACTU team would work collaboratively with all members of the FCAIB community to strengthen accountability, uphold integrity, and ensure strict adherence to ethical and institutional standards across the college.
