Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, has charged Nigerians to persevere, celebrate the seasons with moderation and hope for better days in the New Year.

The Ekiti Speaker, who, during the week, distributed food items and other gifts to constituents in Moba Local Government Area and other parts of Ekiti State to ease the burden of yuletide celebration, said he was optimistic that the new year, 2018, would be better, noting that those who persevere would have good stories to tell.

In a congratulatory message to Nigerians on the occasion of the New Year celebration, signed by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, the lawmaker observed that “if for anything, that we are witnesses to the New Year is enough to thank our maker.”

He felicitated with the entire people of Nigeria, Ekiti State and his home local government, Moba, that they were able to weather the socio-economic storm to witness another year.

“I must admit that things are not easy for Nigerians of all creeds at the moment. But, for the simple reason that we have lived, despite all the odds, to witness another year, we need to thank God and felicitate with one another. I congratulate us for weathering this socio-economic storm.

“As a man of God, I have the conviction that things will be better for those of us that can persevere in the coming year. Let us continue to pray for our country and Ekiti State. It has not been rosy, but I see hope in the horizon. We are wiser; we know the people that can serve our interests best, but God must remain our fortress. And we shall live to eat from the good of the land,” he said.

According to the message, Oluwawole had doled out gift items to people for both the Christmas and New Year celebrations, not only in Moba Local Government Area of the state, but also across the state.

The lawmaker said he did this in complementing the stomach infrastructure programme of Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose.

Among the gifts presented to residents by the Speaker were bags of rice, about 145 live chicken, bales of Ankara fabric, vegetables oil, cash, etc.

Beneficiaries of the largesse included political leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, members of drivers’ unions, artisans, among others.

Oluwawole thanked the people for their support and cooperation, promising to continue to put smile on their faces.
