Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, Sola Adebayo, has warned that constructing road bumps without official approval is now prohibited across the state.
He said individuals or communities intending to install speed bumps on any road must first obtain approval from the state‘s Ministry of Works.
Speaking during a meeting at his office in Ado-Ekiti, Mr Adebayo stressed that the new directive was aimed at protecting road infrastructure and ensuring safety standards are maintained.
According to him, once approval is granted, engineers from the ministry will supervise the construction to ensure that the bumps meet recognised safety and engineering standards.
He stressed that it is an offence for individuals or groups to damage roads or carry out unauthorised construction on any state road.
The commissioner also warned residents against dumping refuse in drainage channels before, during or after rainfall, saying such actions undermine road durability and block drainage systems.
He added that anyone found violating government directives on road usage and protection would be sanctioned in line with existing laws.
