Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is targeting no fewer than 10,000 beneficiaries in Lagos suburbs as part of activities to commemorate his 89th birthday anniversary.

In a statement on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the medical outreach is being organised under the auspices of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation.

The Lagos medical mission will be held in the suburbs of Ikorodu and Alimosho local government areas between February 27 and March 4, 2026.

The former President was born on March 5, 1937.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Dr Olalekan Makinde, “In celebration of the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Founder of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF) is proud to announce a large-scale Lagos Medical Mission aimed at providing comprehensive, life-changing healthcare services — completely free of charge to more than 10,000 Nigerians.

“This special medical outreach is organised as a legacy-driven humanitarian initiative to mark Chief Obasanjo’s 89th birthday, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service, nation-building, and the well-being of the Nigerian people.”

Makinde further stated that the outreach would begin on Friday, February 27, at Ijede LCDA Council Hall, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, and Saturday, February 28, at Imota Mini Stadium, Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos.

He added, “From Monday, March 2 to Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the exercise will move to Alade Stadium, Command Road, Agbado/Oke-Odo in Alimosho, Lagos, where beneficiaries will receive: free ear care services including provision of hearing aids for qualified beneficiaries; free eye care services, including detailed screening, prescription glasses, and referral or sponsorship for eye surgeries; free cardiovascular screening, blood pressure checks, and heart health assessments; preventive medical counseling; free general medical consultation, diagnosis, and treatment; and distribution of essential medications at no cost.”

He emphasised that through this Lagos medical mission, the foundation continues to embody Obasanjo’s vision of accessible healthcare and compassionate intervention for underserved populations.

Makinde stressed, “As we celebrate the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, we honour his legacy in the most meaningful way possible — by serving the people.

“This medical mission is a gift to the nation, especially to those who may not otherwise have access to quality healthcare.”

He explained, “The outreach is open to elderly citizens, children and families, individuals living with untreated hearing or vision challenges, persons with cardiovascular concerns, low-income and vulnerable residents across Lagos State.

“Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as services will be rendered strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.”

The OOF is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to transforming lives through strategic interventions in health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and community development.
