Popular actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has encouraged women to make self-care a priority, describing it as necessary rather than selfish.
In a post shared on Instagram, the actress said she learnt to attend to her mental, physical, and spiritual well-being through activities such as resting, praying, and spending time at the spa or salon.
Akindele noted that women often dedicate much of their energy to others and stressed the importance of replenishing themselves.
She advised that self-care does not need to be costly, adding that rest, sleep, prayer, walking, and finding peace of mind are effective ways to maintain balance.
She wrote, “Self-Care Saturday!!!!!! Over time, I’ve learned that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it’s necessary. From resting, praying, and spending time at the spa or salon to taking care of my mental, physical, and spiritual health, I’ve learned to prioritise myself, too.
“As women, we pour so much into others, but you can’t pour from an empty cup. Fill yourself up too. Love yourself. Be kind to yourself.
Take care of yourself in the little ways you can. Self-care doesn’t always have to be expensive. Sometimes it’s simply resting, sleeping, praying, taking a walk, or giving yourself peace of mind”.
