The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of De Lad Boxing Promotions, Alhaji Waheed Alabi, has commended Fight Gist Media for its outstanding Boxing Awards initiative, describing it as a laudable platform that continues to inspire excellence within the Nigerian boxing community.
Alabi gave the commendation on Sunday, 27th June, 2026, during the Fight Gist Media Boxing Awards ceremony held inside the Sports Hall of the National Sports Commission, National Institute for Sports (NIS), Lagos.
Speaking on the impact of the annual awards, Alabi praised the founder of Fight Gist Media, Akinlade Abiodun, describing him as a versatile young man whose dedication, vision, and commitment to the development of boxing make him worthy of emulation by the younger generation.
According to the boxing promoter, Abiodun has devoted his time and energy to building an initiative that has grown into a force to be reckoned with in the sport, earning the respect and admiration of stakeholders across the boxing industry.
“The Fight Gist Media Boxing Awards is a good initiative because it motivates boxers to continually improve their performances. Knowing that their activities throughout the year are being monitored and will be objectively evaluated at the end of the year encourages them to remain disciplined, committed, and focused on achieving greater success,” Alabi said.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of De Lad Boxing Promotions to the development of Nigerian boxing, stressing that the organisation would continue to support and nurture young talents in both the amateur and professional ranks.
“At De Lad Boxing Promotions, we are not going to relent in our efforts to support young Nigerians in reaching the pinnacle of their boxing careers.
