Battle Against Insecurity: IGP Disu Meets With Predecessors, Seeks Collaboration

    The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, convened a rare gathering of former Inspectors-General of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, as part of efforts to harness their wealth of experience in addressing the nation’s security challenges and to deepen ongoing police reforms.

    The meeting brought together some of the country’s most distinguished retired police chiefs, including Aliyu Attah, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Abubakar Ringim, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Sulaiman Abba, Usman Alkali Baba and immediate past IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

    The high-level engagement focused on leveraging the former police bosses’ institutional memory, strategic perspectives and decades of policing experience to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.

    Speaking during the meeting, Disu described the visit as a demonstration of unity and continuity within the Force, stressing that the experience and counsel of his predecessors remain critical to the success of the current police leadership.

    He expressed appreciation to the retired IGPs for their continued commitment to the growth of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that their contributions would support ongoing efforts to modernise policing, improve service delivery and enhance national security.

    Disu said the institutional knowledge accumulated by the former police chiefs remains an invaluable asset in confronting emerging security threats and sustaining reforms to reposition the Force for greater professionalism and efficiency.

    According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the meeting underscored the police leadership’s commitment to fostering collaboration across generations of officers in pursuit of a safer and more secure Nigeria.
