The Nigerian Police, Oyo State Command, has arrested two suspects over the unlawful possession of an item suspected to be a human skull following a coordinated intelligence-led operation aimed at combating crime and other unlawful activities across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who confirmed this in a statement in Ibadan on Friday, said the operation followed credible intelligence received by the Command regarding the activities of a suspect in possession of an item suspected to be a human skull.
Acting swiftly on the information, he said the commissioner of police, Abimbola Olugbenga, directed a joint operation involving operatives of the Command and the Amotekun Corps.
According to him, during the operation, one Shittu Isah of Kajola Area, Ijio, was successfully apprehended, while the item suspected to be a human skull was recovered and secured as an exhibit.
He added that the suspect was immediately taken into police custody for further investigation.
During interrogation, Olayinka said Shittu Isah confessed to having exhumed the suspected human skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio.
He further confessed that he did not act alone, a development that led to the arrest of one Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
He added that the recovered exhibit has been preserved for forensic examination to ascertain its nature while investigators are working diligently to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the offense, establish the motive behind the act, and determine whether other persons are connected to the crime.
The Command reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives, preserving public peace, and ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice.
It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of preventing and combating crime across Oyo State.
