Coventry City manager, Frank Lampard has said he is happy with the club’s business this summer and is content with the squad he has been left to work with for this campaign.
His side have begun the season with two losses in as many games, without scoring, in what has been an unforgiving return to top-flight football.
The 48-year-old also stressed the importance of a strong mind-set and the need for his players to look beyond recent results.
Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Manchester City, the Sky Blues boss said he was looking forward to pushing on now that his squad business is finalised.
“I’m happy with the players that we have brought in,” said the former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder. “We had quite a lot of work to do in the summer.”
“So yeah, it’s nice from my point of view now that the window’s finished and we can focus on the squad.”
“We’ve had a good time together as a squad and as staff, and now there are new players in and we want to continue that good time.”
He added that several players had come into the season slightly under-prepared: “There are some players that we need to get up to speed and acclimatised to how we play.”
Among Coventry’s headline arrivals is Nigeria striker Taiwo Awoniyi, signed from Nottingham Forest in a permanent deal worth around £17m. Awoniyi, who spent four seasons at the City Ground after joining from Union Berlin in 2022, has taken the number 14 shirt at Coventry.
Lampard was full of praise for the forward’s profile: “I always felt he was a threat as an opponent. We wanted to bring in some Premier League experience. Power, strength, a player who can hold the ball up and run behind — that’s very valuable.”
Coventry have also confirmed the signing of Toulouse winger Yann Gboho, cousin of Paris St-Germain and France forward Desire Doue. The deal for the 25-year-old was agreed and submitted to the Premier League ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with the fee set at 12m euros (£10.3m).
Coventry City travel to Manchester City in the Premier League today having lost their opening two fixtures of the season.
