The Nigerian Police, Rivers State Command, has extended the deadline for the enforcement of the ban on unauthorised tinted glasses on commercial vehicles to October 31, 2026.
The extension, according to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, followed appeals from transport union leaders to give affected operators additional time to comply with the directive.
The Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, urged commercial vehicle operators to use the final grace period to remove unauthorised tinted glasses and regularise their vehicles.
It warned that from November 1, 2026, vehicles found violating the directive would be subjected to enforcement and sanctions in accordance with the law.
The Command also directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict compliance and conduct thorough but lawful searches during enforcement operations, particularly where security concerns arise.
It further reiterated that tricycles, popularly known as ‘keke,’ must not operate beyond 10:00 p.m., directing police formations across the state to enforce the restriction.
The police warned officers against using the enforcement exercise to extort or harass members of the public, stressing that any officer found abusing the process would face appropriate disciplinary action.
According to the statement, any officer found engaging in extortion or abusing the enforcement process will face appropriate disciplinary action.
The police urged transport operators to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with the command in maintaining peace and security across Rivers State.
