Ondo City came alive recently as golfers, business leaders and dignitaries gathered at the Nibanola Motherland and Golf Resort for the Nibanola Pro Am Golf Tournament, staged in honour of juju music legend, King Sunny Ade, who recently turned 80.
The three day event, which ran from Thursday September 24, 2026 to Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the resort brought professional and amateur players together on the greens in a celebration of sport, fellowship and one of Nigeria’s most enduring cultural icons.
The golfing event was a chance to celebrate King Sunny Ade, fondly called KSA, whose career spanning more than six decades took juju music from local parties to international stages and earned Nigeria global recognition.
Organised by the Nibanola Golf Club, the tournament was built around the theme “Golf, Connect, Celebrate, Inspire,” a fitting description of a weekend that blended keen competition with a warm tribute to a man whose music has shaped generations across Nigeria and beyond.
The competition ended on a high note as winners across the various categories went home with gifts in recognition of their performance on the course.
The tournament enjoyed strong support from the corporate community including Courtyard Farms Limited, Bet9ja, ValueJet, Optimus Bank, Core Credit, Emperor Resources, Niptuck Global Resources, Niby Water, 4B Fitness, Ilemoluwa House of Hope and FreshPrince Digital Printers Ltd.
Donors to the tournament included Hon. (Dr) Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, Gen. G. G. Shipi (rtd), Prince Niyi Owaduge, Chief Akindele Omole, the Bobaselu of Odigbo Kingdom, Chief Akintunde Richard Ayodele SAN, Hon. Ayodele Akande and Babafunde Ogundare Esq, among others.
