The four recognised market leaders in Oyo State have expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government for approving and formalising their appointments, pledging to promote unity, peace, and economic progress among traders, and supporting efforts to assist victims of the Bodija Market fire incident.
The market leaders made this known during an appreciation visit to the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry, where they reaffirmed their commitment to working together towards strengthening trade and improving the economic fortunes of Oyo State.
Receiving the delegation, the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry, Professor Salihu Adelabu, welcomed the market leaders and emphasised the importance of unity, cooperation, and responsible leadership in advancing the interests of traders across the state.
Professor Adelabu noted that the formalisation of their appointments was an important step towards strengthening market leadership and fostering harmonious relationships among traders.
He urged the leaders to work collectively, resolve differences amicably, and promote a united trading community capable of engaging constructively with the government.
The Commissioner further stressed that unity among traders would enhance their ability to benefit from government policies and programmes while contributing meaningfully to the development of commerce and the state’s economy.
In his contribution, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Mamud Okesade, commended the market leaders for their commitment to unity and progress, urging them to sustain the spirit of cooperation for the benefit of traders and the economic development of Oyo State.
In her remarks, the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Princess Folashade Azeezat Abeo Nurudeen, expressed profound appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in her and the other recognised market leaders.
She described the appointment as a call to greater service and pledged to promote love, peace, unity and mutual understanding among traders, particularly market women, across the state.
Similarly, the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Abass Yekini, appreciated the government for the recognition, assuring that he would work closely with the other market leaders to strengthen unity among traders and promote their collective interests.
He appealed to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to ensure that traders benefit from relevant government interventions and opportunities, noting that their unity would enable them to contribute more effectively to the state’s economic growth.
The other recognised leaders, Alhaji Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh, Aare Oloja of Oyo State, and Chief Mrs. J.T. Raimi, Asiwaju Oloja of Oyo State, also expressed appreciation to the state government and pledged their support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, cooperation, and progress within the trading community.
