Oyo League Of Veteran Journalists Warns Public Over Purported Lecture By ‘Fake’ Organisation

The League of Veteran Journalists, Oyo State, has disowned the Veteran Journalists’ Association of Nigeria, describing it as a “phantom organisation” and distancing itself from a lecture scheduled to hold in Ibadan on Monday, October 26, 2026.

In a statement, the League said the lecture was scheduled for the Millennium Hall at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Press Centre, Iyaganku.

It said it was the only recognised body of veteran journalists in Oyo State, adding that it was established in 1988.

“The League of Veteran Journalists, which was established in 1988, consists of journalists and media practitioners who have put in not less than 25 years in the profession,” the statement said.

The League said it issued the clarification to prevent members of the public from being misled about the event and its organisers. It also accused those behind the purported association of pursuing a “self-serving mission,” but provided no further details.

Among the prominent journalists it identified as members were Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Felix Adenaike, Bamiji Ojo, Layi Agbaje, Tunde Akingbade, Agboola Sanni, Kola Animasaun, Jare Ajayi, Bose Oyewole, Oladele Idris, Biodun Oduwole, Lanre Ogundipe, Shade Haastrup and Bolaji Kareem.

The League said its objectives included promoting journalism, defending press freedom, encouraging compliance with professional ethics, fostering public awareness through discussion and analysis, and protecting members’ welfare.
