Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to the training and re-training of civil servants in all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), especially on the contemporary ways of preparing Budget and Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon Olufemi Ajayi gave the confirmation at a two-day workshop for Focal Persons across the State on Modern Day Budget Preparation and Management in Ado-Ekiti.
Hon Ajayi maintained that one of the hallmarks of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration is transparency and accountability in governance with requisite check and balances of independent Judiciary and Legislative arms of government.
The Commissioner stated that the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning is poised to ensure the implementation of the outcome of the Iloko Declaration Work Plan which is the bottom-line of the proposed 2020-2022 MTEF document and the State Budget in line with the present administration‘s five pillars developmental agenda for Ekiti development.
He stressed further that the workshop offers the participants the opportunity to learn new strategies at ensuring success in the implementation of government social and economic development projects.
Commissioner Ajayi noted that the workshop also keeps Directors of Administration and Supplies, Directors of Planning and Statistics, Directors of Finance and Accounts and all relevant personnel abreast of developments with respect to 2020 Federation Accounts estimates, broader budget estimate, mode of forecasting template, Word Bank report templates, fiscal update on revenue, expenditure and debt position as well as knowledge on macro-economic and oil assumptions among other things.
The Commissioner of Budget maintained that the outcome of the workshop will assist the State also to have accurate fiscal forecasts during preparation of the 2020 -2022 MTEF and State Budget.
Hon Ajayi who expressed gratitude to the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for approving the workshop in conjunction with the DOWN Commission, DFID PERL, and UK-AID urged participants to be fully involved and contribute maximally in the workshop to ensure accurate preparation of the 2020-2022 MTEF and 2020 State Budget.
In his contribution, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Babasola Folorunso stated that the preparation of the 2020 Budget will be PSAS compliant from the onset.
Folorunso called on the participants to imbibe the new knowledge in budget preparation in order to engender sustainable development in Ekiti State.
In their own submissions, the representatives of DAWN Commission, Oluwatosin Oke ,UK-AID, Dr. Eze Chinedu and DFID PEARL, Doris Ahunchana respectively stated that the workshop will enhance and consolidate Ekiti Government efforts for development.
