It was a day full of fun and excitement as Lafinda Art Therapy Studio hosted young and old people of like-minds at the first ever paint and brunch party in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state.

The event held at Mahnatez International School, at Alaafin Avenue, Oluyole, Ibadan recently marked the emergence of the therapy outfit.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the outfit, Miss Toyin Adebisi described the event as a social engagement that availed people a unique opportunity to showcase their artistic expression and improve mental health.

Miss Adebisi disclosed to the participants that she got the inspiration for the concept after her recovery from coronavirus, adding that the concept is a way of promoting mental health awareness and reducing feelings of stress and anxiety which are very common during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The goal of art therapy is to utilize the creative process to help people explore self-expression and in doing so, find new ways to gain personal insight and develop new coping skills particularly in the period of lock down or isolation. It is the expression of human creativity and imagination. It can be a powerful way to cope with stressful times”, she said.

Adebisi, a graduate of Economics, explained that art therapy helps emotionally, financially, psychologically, and even assists to shape individual and collective personality.

She said the programme being a social event will be a continuous exercise and called on people interested in organizing events like birthday and brunch parties, to engage the service of the outfit.

Adebisi opined that the outfit is planning to set up a studio where people can book a session to express themselves in the artwork of painting irrespective of age and gender.

She categorized the initiative as another opportunity of making money for those who are interested in selling their artworks to members of the public through her outfit’s social networking platforms.

According to her, the outfit is into canvass painting, music, small bites and unlimited mimosa making, advising Nigeria’s youths to use their time to explore new things that will yield them positive results.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the birthday cake to a popular radio presenter, Ronke Giwa by Ms. Adebisi.
