The possibility of seeing Victor Osimhen in action for Napoli against Liverpool in tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League match hangs in the balance with injury concerns over the Nigeria international.
Ahead of their opening Group A home match against Liverpool at the Diego Maradona Stadium,
Napoli’s first teamers returned to training yesterday at their Konami Training Centre with Osimhen according to the club training on his own due to knock he received towards the end of the side’s 2-1 away win against Lazio on Saturday.
In an official statement on its website, the Partenopei provided updates on the wellness of the players ahead of the eagerly awaited match against the English giants with the caveat on Osimhen.
“After some activation work in the gym and out on the pitch, the squad was split into two groups: those who played on Saturday did strength work in the gym, while the rest of the squad did strength work on the pitch and played in a small-sided game,” the club explained.
“Diego Demme had physio and trained individually in the gym. Hirving Lozano had further x-rays in the morning at the Pineta Grande clinic followed by a consultation with Doctor Bucciero, a brain surgeon, with the results coming back negative. The Mexican worked individually.
“Victor Osimhen trained on his own following a knock that he picked up towards the end of the win over Lazio,” the statement added.
Incidentally, one of the reasons Osimhen stayed put at Napoli despite reported interests from a host of European teams during the Summer Transfers Window, was the lure of playing in the UCL with the Serie A outfit.
Napoli are drawn in Group A along with Ajax, Rangers and Liverpool but it remains to be seen if Osimhem would shake off the knock to be part of his side’s opening Group A match.
