Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Chief Press Secretary/Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde has described the politician as an unusual personality with a heart of gold.
Olanrewaju also painted the picture of Engineer Makinde as an unusual administrator with extraordinary love for the people of Oyo State.
He said, “I am confident of this assertion because of how he resolved the recent misunderstanding between the state government and the organized labour unions. Whoever thought there would be a war concerning the labour issue at that time does not know the governor. He sees through issues far ahead of their manifestation.
“He is a man with unimaginable mental prowess; I never believed for one day that the issue of the labour union would escalate. The approval of 2.2 billion for six months totaling 13.2 billion naira will have an impact on the civil servants and the economy of the state”.
Pastor Suleimon further stated that the governor has provided palliative measures for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES) in the state through the provision of funds in single digit rate, while clarifying that business owners can access the loan across seven designated zones in the state.
The Governor’s aide made these submissions while featuring on our weekly radio show, ‘Parrot Xtra/Ayekooto on Radio’ anchored by Olayinka Agboola and broadcast live on Splash 105.5FM, Felele, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State recently.
Olanrewaju further revealed that the loan will help to sustain more businesses, revive the economy and increase employment opportunities across the state.
Speaking on how he was appointed as the governor spokesperson, “When I was making my plan for the year on January 1, 2023, it was absolutely never in my plan to become the Chief Press Secretary. I did not see it coming but our lives are in the hands of God, the author and finisher of our lives.
“I believe it was the plan of God because I was not in the campaign team of the Governor and before the appointment, I never had any close relationship with the governor. The position is an opportunity to serve the people of Oyo State”.
Speaking on how the media can sustain Nigeria’s democracy, “There is no good that cannot be improved upon, without the media; our democracy would not have been sustained. The media has been challenging those in leadership positions to stay focused. Both the media and the government have the same focus of ensuring a better society.”
He further stated that Information Communication Technology (ICT) has aided journalism practice while urging media practitioners to adhere to the ethical practice of the profession.
The CPS added: “Developmental journalism is the future of journalism while citizen journalism is taking a large chunk of our job. If you want to be relevant in the profession, you have to go back to developmental journalism, which means having a society that works. I believe journalism is going back to its original functions”.
