Sufficient partnership between the executive and legislative arms of government has been identified as the only panacea for democratic development and good governance at every level in the nation.

Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, stated this at a legislative session at the Osun State House of Assembly chamber, Abere, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, in honour of the conferment of honourary life membership of the House on Governor Rauf Aregbesola to mark his 60th birthday on Tuesday.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, Pastor Oluwawole, who was among speakers at the well-attended event, described the legislative honour bestowed on Governor Aregbesola as a historical milestone in the history of democratic governance in the South-West geopolitical zone of the nation.

The Ekiti House Speaker condemned the notion that most legislative arms of government were tied to the apron strings of their state governors, stressing that no government would populate its legislative arm with its enemies.

While calling for cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature across the country, Pastor Oluwawole promised that the Ekiti State House of Assembly would replicate the Osun House gesture on the Ekiti State governor, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose, in order to celebrate his unprecedented contributions to the development of Ekiti State and the nation in general.

“This is historical in the evolution of democracy in the South-West. It is honour done to whom it is due; and I believe that this is in recognition of the developmental strides of Governor Aregbesola in Osun State.

“It is a wrong notion to think that synergy between the executive and the legislature is about compromise. We need mutual understanding to develop our polity. And as such, I can promise that we in the Ekiti State House of Assembly will look at the possibility of bestowing similar honour on our amiable governor, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose, who has done more than all previous administrations in the state to develop Ekiti,” he said.
