The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to the Executive arm of government to approve the conversion of qualified non-teaching staff in public secondary schools to teaching staff to fill some vacancies across the state.

The House made this resolution following the motion jointly moved by  members representing Kajola state constituency, Hon. John Olaleru and Hon. Gbenga Oyekola representing Atiba State constituency on the  need to convert qualified non teaching staff to teaching staff in the State.

While moving the motion, the lawmakers observed that in 2005, the Oyo State government employed both teaching and non teaching staff and were posted to various secondary schools in the State.

They added that some of the non teaching staff employed then were recruited as security guards on grade level 01 and account clerks on grade level 04 and 06 respectively, stressed further that at the time of their appointment, majority of them had Nigeria Certificate in Education  (NCE) while some had gotten degree certificates.

The lawmakers further hinted that most affected staff with this conversion issue were in the Oke Ogun axis of the state.

The House also received the report of the committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation on its interaction with ministries of finance and budget and Lands, Housing and Survey and State Board of Internal Revenue over revenue generation in the State.

The report which was presented by the Chairperson House Committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, Hon. (Mrs) Bolanle Agbaje representing Ibadan North Constituency I was sequel to the directive of the House on 27th April, 2017 to further engage the aforementioned MDAs on the state of their revenue generation/target with a view to ascertaining their further practical steps and measures taken by them after their appearance before the House.
