Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) on Wednesday donated learning materials to four orphanage homes for the benefit of over 2000 children.
The orphanages include Empowerment Orphanage Moniya, Chesire Home Sango, Oyiza Orphanage NTC road and FOMWAN orphanage Bashorun and among the materials donated are exercise books, school bags, and mathematical sets.
While presenting the materials to the orphanages, the Project Manager OYSACA, Dr. Kayode Ogunkunle said the donations were part of the activities for the World Aids Day programme, adding that the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi’s compassion for the less privileged in the society motivated the donations.
According to Dr Ogunkunle, “Mrs. Ajimobi enjoined us to donate academic items to the students in orphanages. This is well thought out of her goodwill. She told us that food items and money get exhausted quickly but academic materials are more enduring. Also, food and money are regularly donated by people most times.”
In their separate responses, the Matron, Oluyole Chesire home, Sango, Mrs. Ayo Alabi, and Coordinator, OYIZA Orphanage NTC road, Mr. Idrees Farouk expressed joy and appreciation to the Chairperson of OYSACA,
Mrs. Florence Ajimobi for her generosity, benevolence and concern for the less privileged, praying that the Lord will continue to bless Her and the Oyo State Government.
Also, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have been advised to desist from any risky behavior that would endanger their lives or promote the spread of HIV in the State.
Dr Ogunkunle gave the charge during a sensitization and health outreach by OYSACA and other stakeholders, at the state office of the NURTW, Olomi Ibadan.
Ogunkunle said that it is important for everyone to know his/her status, saying that they should never stigmatize anyone who tests positive to the virus.
In his own remarks, the Deputy State Chairman of the Union, Alhaji Olajide Abideen Abimbola urged NURTW members and the public to get tested and desist from having unprotected sexual intercourse in order to stop the spread of HIV in the State.
