The Ogun State House of Assembly on Friday adopted communiqué issued at the Stakeholders’ forum held during the week on estimated billings, inability to provide Pre-paid meters to customers,  non compliance with National Electricity Regulation Commission  (NERC), and erratic power supply in the State by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The adoption followed a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, who is also the Chairman of the stakeholders forum, seconded by the Majority Leader, Adeyinka Mafe and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote at the plenary presided over by Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi.

According to the communique, there should be an immediate stoppage of estimated bill to electricity consumers in the State, with a recommendation that consumers should have the right to appeal against exorbitant bills so as to pay for only what they consume.

The Communiqué added that there should be enumeration of customers by the Distribution Companies (DISCOs), prompt official report of exorbitant billing, service providers should maintain existing transformers and replace damaged ones.

It stated further that the energy providers should provide relief transformers, recruit more staff to checkmate the use of non-DISCOs staff, calling on the Federal government to expedite action at ensuring that the process of issuing meters by Meters Assets Providers (MAP) scheme was fast-tracked so as to ensure that all energy consumers are metered soonest.

Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly has invited the State Commissioner for Environment, Bolaji Oyeleye, the General Manager, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, Mrs Funmilayo Kuti as well as Chairmen of Coker-Ibogun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area to appear before the Committee of the Whole House on Tuesday, 26th of June, 2018 at 10: 00am

Speaker Adekunbi who gave the directive, also commended the ministry on its efforts at promoting safe environment in the State, while responding to the submissions of the lawmakers representing Ifo I State Constituency, Olakunle Oluomo and his Ado-Odo/Ota I counterpart, Akinpelu Aina who reported the illegal dumping of toxic waste at the dumpsite at Ibogun, in Coker- Ibogun LCDA and Ota in Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the State from unknown sources from outside the State.

The lawmakers explained that the unlawful waste disposal could pose harmful effect on the environment and the overall health wellbeing of the entire people of the State.
