Engineer Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State on Thursday met with the caretaker chairmen of the 33 Local Government Areas and 35 local council development areas of the state at executive council chambers, governor’s office, Ibadan.

The meeting held for over an hour was not unconnected with the current crisis in local government administration in the state.

Makinde at the meeting gave the Chairmen the assurance that he was on top of the situation and the crisis over local government administration in the state will soon be resolved.

He informed the Chairmen that following his meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Wednesday, he expected a positive signal to be sent to the Oyo State Commissioner for Police, Shina Olukolu, to soon to allow the caretaker Chairmen return to their respective offices.

Though he noted that the visit to Abuja was to have the injunction submitted to the legal department of the IGP, Makinde avowed that the Chairmen will get the needed signal and nod from the Oyo police command to be in office.

Makinde particularly warned the Chairmen against retaliation towards the sacked Chairmen in a bid to return to their offices, noting that the people and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will suffer the brunt of misguided actions.

He maintained that the local government crisis was not worth the loss of any soul, adding that he will rather let hundreds of guilty persons go than punish one innocent.

He, however, admonished the caretaker Chairmen to remain focused on living up to the demands of their office, particularly mandating them to nominate projects from their constituencies that they can embark upon.

In particular, Makinde urged the Chairmen to be guided by the need to execute projects that will be beneficial to their respective local government areas and local council development areas.
