Educational Development: Fayemi’s Govt Partners UNICEF

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ekiti State, Mr. Foluso Daramola, has assured that the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi would continue to collaborate with international partners and Donor Agencies on programmes that would lead to improvement in the welfare of the people, particularly children.

The Commissioner, who gave the assertion in Ado-Ekiti at the opening ceremony of a 5-day review programme on the Development of State Education Sector Plan (SESP) and State Education Strategic Operational Plan (SESOP) on Monday, disclosed that the two plans initiated by the State Technical Committee members were designed to meet the UNICEF standard.

According to him, the documents would be required by UNICEF in all the supporting states across the nation and the timely release of the Government Counterpart Cash Contribution (GCCC) by Ekiti State Government is a demonstration of the commitment of the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi to various intervention programmes in the state.

Daramola, while calling on participants at the workshop to come up with an acceptable and useful document for the plans, disclosed that the development of credible strategic plan was a necessary requirement to overhauling the State’s Education Sector in line with the global best practices and in fulfilment of the promises made by the governor.

In his own contribution, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Science and Technology Mr. James Owolabi, appealed to the participants to contribute meaningfully, hinting that the outcome of the workshop was expected to impact positively on the welfare of the people of the state.

Also, speaking on the objective of the workshop, the UNICEF Consultant, Dr. (Mrs.) Lara Ogunsola, disclosed that it would highlight the challenges of the Education Sector in the state and provide solution to them.

She revealed that the SESP would be for ten years while the SESOP would cover three years drawn from the 10 years Strategic Plan.

Dr. Ogunsola, who is a Chief Training and Research Fellow at the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) and the Head, South West Coordinator, advised that such a good plan must be adequately funded within the time frame.

She also admonished that all children of school age must be in school in the state.
