Honourable Afeez Bolaji Repete, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National youth Leader and one-time Special Adviser on Youth And Sport to the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has been talking about why the federal government should look critically into the demands of Nigerian youths.
He also sent some cogent messages to the Engineer Seyi Makinde-led government in Oyo State.
He made his feelings known when was engaged in an interview by PMParrot over the weekend.
The APC Deputy National youth Leader also subscribed to the idea of the peaceful protest carried out by the Nigerian youths to put an end to the brutalization of innocent Nigerians by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
The youthful politician submitted “the time is now and the youths have demonstrated that capacity during the ENDSARS protests. They spoke loudly although I was not happy the way a noble struggle was hijacked by the hoodlums but in all, I think the youths should be commended. The political elites can now see that when you build the youths, you build the nation.
Commenting on whether the protest was needed in the first place, the APC youth Leader said “the ENDSARS protest was just an avenue for the youths to express their minds and it has never happened in the history of Nigeria, the youths were so organised and whether we like it or not the protests have changed the thinking of our leaders across party lines, no serious government would take our youths for granted again.
“It was just so unfortunate that we lost many lives as a result of the protest, but I think our youths should learn when to apply the brakes in any struggle. Hoodlums always take advantage of any genuine protest to carry out their nefarious activities, either a protest organised by Labour Unions or Student Unions”
Reacting to the shooting of peaceful protesters at Lekki Tollgate and President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to mention it in his last speech, the APC youth leader said “President Muhammadu Buhari is the President and Commander in Chief and as a President, you just don’t talk without facts, so the President needed to wait for security reports from the Army, DSS, Navy and other security agencies.
“As the Commander in Chief, you don’t get carried away by emotions or what you read on social media or watch on Television, especially when fake news is the order of the day here, so I think he is still going to address the nation on the issue after getting the facts”.
When asked if the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has been freed from discord, he responded by saying “no political party can claim to be free from discord, but the good thing about APC is that we are reconciling and in fact we are getting more members from the ruling party in the state.
“Most of the politicians that worked for the governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde during the 2019 elections are back to the APC, Senator Femi Lanlehin, Senator Ayo Adeseun the man who contested the Gubernatorial ticket with Makinde under PDP, Hon. Alaran from Iseyin, Hon. Olugbemi from Oluyole and many more.”
Hon Repete further expressed his confidence in APC’s readiness to take over power from the Makinde-led PDP government in Oyo State, his words “Seyi Makinde is the easiest Governor to be defeated once we achieve unity in APC.
“The coalition that brought him to power has collapsed, the people are now missing the leadership of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, the people of Oyo State have come to realize that Ajimobi meant well. The present Governor is just what I can describe as “trial and error experiment” he is playing politics while governance is lacking, his only achievement is payment of salaries, but don’t forget that the first 43 months of Ajimobi during his first tenure he did not owe any salary.
“Ajimobi was paying on every 25th of every month before the recession set in 2015 and he cleared all the salaries before he handed over to Governor Makinde. Senator Ajimobi did not owe anybody salary as at the time he left the Government House, so I am confident of Makinde’s ouster in 2023.
