Independence Day: Oyo Holds Inter-School Debate, Essay Competitions

Pupils and students of public and private schools in Oyo State have been enjoined to make education a priority to attain a greater height in life.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Oludele Oyadeyi, who made the disclosure, described education as a ladder to greatness.

He made the call at the essay writing and debate competitions held at the Conference Room of the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to commemorate this year’s Independence Day.

According to Mr. Oyadeyi, the competition was organized to enhance their reading culture, sharpen their writing skills and build their confidence in the act of public speaking.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Science and Technology Mrs. Aminat Atere, stressed that the pupils and students must imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in this competition since it is aimed at making them better students.

At the end of the essay competition Mary Alexandra from Ibadan zone 3 came first, Shinwar Jude from Oyo zone and Adediran Deborah from Ibadan zone 1 came 2nd and 3rd respectively for the primary category. While students from Oyo zone, Ibadan zone 1 and Ogbomosho zone 2 took away the best 3 positions in the debate.

The winners will be awarded with cash and gifts at Lekan Salami Sports Complex Adamasingba on October 1st, 2021 by the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to commemorate the Independence Day.
