A group within the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Evergreen Progressives Group has made passionate appeal to the leaders and elders forum of the party in Ibadan city to ensure that only people with tested and trusted characters are allowed to occupy the various positions of the state executives allocated to Ibadan city.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Hon. Aje Taiwo in reaction to the zoning arrangements made by the party ahead of Saturday’s state congress election.
The group said that this appeal became imperative in view of the fact that Ibadan city is the heart of Ibadanland and is crucial to Oyo State politics.
According to the statement, “it is of great concern to us as a group on who gets positions as it affects the quality of public service we are disposed to. We therefore recommend and appeal to the elders to critically look out for and put round pegs in round holes.
“It is our opinion that the positions zoned by the leaders and elders of our party APC in Oyo State can be harmoniously zoned with cognizance to loyalty, dexterity and dedication to the constituent local governments.
“Our view is that experience of elders like Alhaji Ismaila Salami from Ibadan South East local government can match a good representation of the Physically Challenged, having served twice as Special Assistant on People With Disability to the administration of late Gov. Ajimobi and a loyal party member. In addition to that for Ibadan South East local government, the Ex-Officio could be added.
“Furthermore, Ibadan North East can come up with a very active, intelligent and loyal women of virtue as the women leader to which we can testify to while Ibadan North can conveniently boast of dedicated, experienced and loyal party men who can be saddled with the Assistant State Secretaryship position.
“Ibadan South West has an array of women of virtue who can serve as the Senatorial Women Leader. The last but not the least position could be retained by Ibadan North West Local government where politically savvy and dedicated party man who at various times served the party at the state level as well as in the political desk of government in the last two term administration of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.”
The group said it decided to put forward the above suggestions in good faith, stressing that it sincerely believe that it will help the party to get out of the imbroglio caused by self-interest and self-serving members within the party.
It therefore implored all those who are opportuned to be part of the decision making at the Ibadan zonal meeting held today to embrace peace and allow the party to move forward.
The group further appealed to the myopic few within the party to have a broader view of the happenings in the party, urging them to be mindful of the fact that the main concern of the party is to seize the reigns of the government come 2023 by the grace of God as Oyo State has suffered enough in the hands of the directionless, clueless and self-serving administration currently in control of the state.
