The Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Olatunji Disu, on Wednesday directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all State Commands and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen security deployments and enhance proactive policing measures throughout the festive period.
Disu said operational measures put in place include strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, critical national assets, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, and other public spaces.
“Intensified visibility policing, coordinated patrols, and stop-and-search operations across all states.
“Surveillance duties and intelligence-led crime prevention operations aimed at deterring criminal activities and protecting lives and property. Swift response protocols to any security threat that may arise during the celebrations”, he added.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid: “IGP extends warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across the country as they commence the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir. He also prays for peace, unity, and prosperity for our great nation.
“The Nigeria Police Force places the highest premium on public vigilance. Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives.
“Members of the public are urged to remain alert and report the following immediately: Suspicious persons loitering around Eid prayer grounds, motor parks, markets, or public gatherings, unattended bags, parcels, vehicles, or any object left in unusual locations and unusual movements or gatherings that suggest criminal planning or intent.
“Any individual or group that appears to be conducting surveillance on security personnel or public facilities. Any activity that seems out of place trust your instincts and report it.
Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy. Contact the nearest police station or use our dedicated emergency lines immediately.
