Since the new president of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over the mantle of leadership on May 29, 2023, the people of the country seem to be learning to trust him more and more.

Like it is generally believed, trust is built over time and Tinubu, from all indications has been working on how to get Nigerians to repose trust in him.

The first step he took by removing subsidy on petrol was an ultra ‘high-risk’ decision. That Nigerians accepted their fates and are swimming with the tides as prices of petrol that used to be N230 per liter maximum before the advent of Tinubu presidency that jacked it up above N500 is what would not have happened twenty years ago.

Of course, President Tinubu went ahead to suspend the ubiquitous Godwin Emefiele from office as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He also did same for the chairman of the powerful EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa. He also took some other positive decisions.

It is obvious that he too knows that his moves to build the trust of Nigerians will not be a day’s job.

The people are anxious for a leader that will lead by example, walk his talk and become a symbol of unity. The expectations are high.

On the other side, the people too need to become more law abiding and generally embrace self-discipline and reorientation. The average Nigerian knows this but nobody wants to obey the laws of the land without being prompted. This is why lawlessness pervades the land. This can be noticed by the conduct of drivers and other road users.

In addition to embracing reorientation, the people of the land also need to engage in prayers through whatever platform they believe in so that President Tinubu will be granted sound health, wisdom and long life divinely to be about to carry out the onerous tasks ahead of him.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
